RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan College Women's
Lacrosse team was picked to finish tied with Niagara
for sixth in the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll as
voted on by the leagues seven head coaches.
Defending
MAAC Champions Canisius were voted to repeat this spring receiving 45 votes.
The Golden Griffins also boast the Preseason Player of the Year in Megan
Oosting.
Fairfield, the top seed in last years
tournament, finished seven in the polls with 42 votes. Marist and Siena each received 31 votes to tie for third, Iona (23
votes) was picked to finish fifth while the Jaspers and Niagara
rounded out the poll with 12 total votes.
Senior
captain Elizabeth Dugan was named to
the preseason All-MAAC team as the only Manhattan
representative. The 2011 MAAC All-Second team player led all position players
last year in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (13).
First year
head coach Diane Haddeland will lead
a team that returns 10 players along with nine newcomers beginning on Feb. 15,
when Manhattan
travels to Stony Brook.
