RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Members of the Eastern Development Program (EDP), a youth soccer training group that sponsors more than a dozen clubs along the eastern seaboard, sponsored a Coaches Clinic on the campus of Manhattan College last week. The training session was built around team philosophy, practice drills, and player development. Rodolfo Borrell and Phil Roscoe of Liverpool FC led the group of nearly three dozen coaches who attended.

“It was a very proud day for us as we hosted over 40 top Directors from major youth clubs in the tri-state area and beyond,” said Manhattan Head Coach Jorden Scott who was delighted to be able to support the EDP program and Liverpool FC. “We hope to develop many positive relationships with all of them moving forward, but more importantly it signifies our desire to work with local and regional clubs to show them our wonderful school and how we conduct ourselves as a Division I soccer program on and off the field.”

The EDP's Director of Youth Development, Tony Williams, and Technical Director, Jeff Bookman helped to coordinate the event that featured a coaching seminar, on-field demonstrations, along with a Q&A session. Those in attendance were given a glimpse into the mindset and philosophy of one of the premier soccer clubs of the English Premier League as well as how they develop and evaluate young players.

Borrell, the Academy's Technical Director and Head of Coaching, holds an extensive resume of success in developing some of the top players in the world. Currently in his fourth year with Liverpool, he spent 13 years with the La Liga Giants helping to develop the likes of Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas.

The Academy's Assistant Manager, Roscoe has spent over a decade coaching within academy youth soccer in Liverpool. He is also the Head of Education and Welfare which oversees the welfare and education of the young men inside the program. The two spent time talking about their goals in developing Liverpool's younger talent and also demonstrated some drills to use in practice with players from the EDP area clubs.
