2013 Manhattan Volleyball Schedule
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – A pair of Division I newcomers and a new conference rival highlight the Manhattan College volleyball team's 2013 schedule, which was released today by Head Coach Mark Jones. The Jaspers open the 31-match slate at the Holy Cross/UMass Lowell Tournament on Aug. 30-31 before starting their home schedule against St. Francis (NY) on Sept. 4. Manhattan will play a total of 12 matches at Draddy Gymnasium.
After playing UMass Lowell in the RiverHawks' first-ever Division I match on Aug. 30, Manhattan concludes the season-opening tournament with matchups against Stony Brook and Holy Cross the following day. Manhattan welcomes St. Francis (NY) to Draddy Gymnasium on Sept. 4 before taking on American and Sacred Heart in the Pioneers' home tournament on Sept. 7.
The Jaspers conclude their preseason tournament schedule the following weekend with four matches at the Big Green Invitational in Hanover, N.H. Manhattan takes on Providence and Central Connecticut State, as well as Grand Canyon, another school in its first season at the Division I level, and host Dartmouth in the two-day event (Sept. 14-15).
Manhattan hosts Howard on Sept. 19 before beginning its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule at Marist on Sept. 21. After visiting Siena (Sept. 22) and Saint Peter's (Sept. 23), the Jaspers take on defending MAAC champion Fairfield at Draddy Gymnasium on Sept. 28. On Sept. 29, Manhattan faces new MAAC member Quinnipiac in the first matchup between the teams as conference foes.
October opens with the annual Western New York swing, as the Jaspers take on Niagara (Oct. 5) and Canisius (Oct. 6). Manhattan hosts Iona on Oct. 12 to begin a span where the Jaspers play eight out of nine at Draddy Gymnasium, including four in a row. The Jaspers face NJIT on Oct. 16 before concluding the homestand against Saint Peter's (Oct. 19) and Rider (Oct. 20).
The only road match during that span is a tilt at Fairleigh Dickinson on Oct. 23. The Jaspers were originally scheduled to visit the Knights last season, but that contest was cancelled in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Manhattan concludes its non-conference schedule against Fairleigh Dickinson, as the Jaspers' final eight matches are all against MAAC opponents.
After welcoming Siena and Marist to Riverdale on Oct. 26-27, the Jaspers wrap up their home schedule against Canisius and Niagara the following weekend. Manhattan hosts Canisius on Nov. 2 and Niagara on Nov. 3.
A midweek matchup at Rider on Nov. 6 begins Manhattan's season-ending four-match road trip. The Jaspers visit the two Connecticut MAAC schools (Fairfield and Quinnipiac) on Nov. 9-10, then make the short trip to Iona for the season finale on Nov. 16.
This season's MAAC Tournament will take place at Siena's Alumni Recreation Center on Nov. 23-24. The top four teams at the conclusion of the 18-match MAAC regular season schedule will qualify for the event. Manhattan, which finished fifth in the MAAC in 2012, is looking to make its first postseason appearance since 2010.
