Men's Soccer 2013 Schedule Announced

2013 Schedule

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's soccer team announced its 2013 schedule on Tuesday evening, featuring eight home matches at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers will also face two teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2012.

“We have designed a much more balanced and competitive schedule this fall, visiting some accomplished programs that will allow us to set personal benchmarks to help establish a winning mentality,” said first year head coach Jorden Scott. “From day one, our goal has been to win and it continues to be. We are very excited about this team and the positive steps forward that Jaspers Soccer is taking. This schedule reflects that.”

Manhattan begins the year with three road games as they travel to Army (Sept. 2), Delaware (Sept. 6) and Syracuse (Sept. 9). The Orange finished last season ranked #17 in the country after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Jaspers will open their home slate on Sept. 13 as they host LIU-Brooklyn at Gaelic Park.

That contest begins a stretch where they will play four of six games on home soil. Following their matchup with the Blackbirds, Manhattan visits Columbia on Sept. 18 before consecutive home matches against St. Francis (NY) on Sept. 22 and the annual “Battle of the Bronx” against Fordham (Oct. 2).

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play starts on Oct. 5 with a trip to Canisius before hosting Fairfield on Oct. 9. They will then venture on back-to-back road games against St. Peter's (Oct. 16) and Rider (Oct. 19) before hosting one of their newest MAAC foes in Quinnipiac (Oct. 23).

After a trip to Siena (Oct. 26), the Jaspers play three of their final four games at Gaelic Park. The other new addition to the conference, Monmouth, visits Riverdale on Oct. 30 prior to a match with Marist on Nov. 2. In their final road game of the regular season, Manhattan visits Iona (Nov. 6) before returning home to duel with the reigning league champions in Niagara (Nov. 9) on Senior Day.

“With the new format in the MAAC, there are plenty of evening games and we hope to see more of the Jasper faithful in the stands supporting us as we look to stay connected with our fellow students, alumni, and surrounding communities.,” said Scott.

The 2013 MAAC Tournament will be played Nov. 15-17 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. with the top four teams in the league standings qualifying for postseason play.

Manhattan Men's Soccer will also host their annual Alumni Game on Sept. 14 at Gaelic Park beginning at noon. All former athletes interested in attending should contact Jorden Scott at Jorden.Scott@manhattan.edu.
