RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College men's indoor track & field team was tabbed to finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season by the league's head coaches. The women's squad, meanwhile, placed third in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
Manhattan received one first-place vote in the men's poll and ended up second overall with 54 points. The Jaspers have finished second at the MAAC Indoor Championships behind Monmouth in each of the last three years. Monmouth is the preseason favorite to repeat. The Hawks collected seven first-place votes and earned 63 points. Rider was third with 43 points, followed by Iona with 42. Rounding out the selections were Saint Peter's (29), Marist (23), Canisius (20) and Siena (14).
In the women's poll, the Jaspers also got one first-place vote. Monmouth, which has also won three straight MAAC indoor titles on the women's side, took first with seven first-place votes and 79 points. Quinnipiac received the other first-place vote and ended up between the Hawks and Jaspers with 69 points. Rider earned 56 points to place fourth, while Iona (46), Saint Peter's (32), Marist (29), Siena (18) and Canisius (14) completed the preseason rankings.
Last season, the men's team took second and the women tied for third at the MAAC Indoor Championships. The Jaspers begin their 2016-17 campaign on Saturday at the Crowell Open, hosted by Army West Point.
