RIVERDALE, NY – In the long history of the Manhattan College track & field program, the Jaspers have enjoyed considerable success at the Millrose Games, one of the most prestigious meets on the indoor calendar. At the 110th edition of the event on Feb. 11, Manhattan will be one of six local schools to take part in the Metropolitan 4x400 relays.
The Jaspers will compete against Columbia, Fordham, NYU and St. John's in both the men's and women's races. Stony Brook will participate in the men's relay only.
“This is important for the New York City and Metropolitan area schools,” Head Coach Dan Mecca said. “It revives a long-standing rivalry and tradition. This will rejuvenate local interest and fervor from our alumni and, of course, from our competitors in the area. It's also a great showcase and recruiting opportunity for all the local high schools and colleges.”
There have been college mile/4x400 meter relays at the Millrose Games since 1919, with women's races added in the 1970s. A Metropolitan relay involving just the New York-area schools was a longtime staple of the program, but has not been contested in several years.
After nearly a century at Madison Square Garden, the Millrose Games have taken place at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center since 2012. NBC will provide live TV coverage of the meet from 4-6 p.m. However, the specific event-by-event schedule is yet to be announced.
