Romano Breaks 37-Year-Old School Golf Record; Team Also Breaks Record

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Breaking a 37-year-old school record for the lowest competitive round, Manhattan junior  Thomas Romano posted a six-under par 66 to lead the Jasper golf team to a dual match win over Yeshiva University this afternoon.  Manhattan posted a team score of 292, which also broke the school record for the lowest dual match team score.

On the par 72, 6229 yard layout at Glenwood Country Club in Old Bridge, N.J., Romano, who hails from Farmingdale, N.Y. and is a graduate of Farmingdale H.S., shot a scorching 31 on the front nine and followed that up with a 35 on the back for his record breaking 66.  The score broke the record set in 1972 by George Fisher at the Leewood Country Club in Eastchester, N.Y.

The team score of 292 broke a team record that was set only a week ago, when the squad shot a 297 against Saint Peter's College.  Manhattan topped Yeshiva 292-340.

In addition to Romano's 66, scoring this afternoon for the Jaspers were:  junior Matt Baney, who posted an excellent 69; freshman Matthew Creamer who scored an 75; and sophomore Chris Critelli, who shot an 82.

Other participating this afternoon for Manhattan were:  Pat Bibaud (79); Anthony Dinelli (82); Anthony DeMartino (84); and Mike Villarosa (86).
