Riverdale, N.Y. -- Manhattan College freshman swimmer Robert Varieur picked up wins in the 200 free and 100 free events, but the Jaspers fell to Fairfield University Saturday 174-74 in a dual meet held at Riverdale Country School.
"Our young program held their own against one of the top five teams in the MAAC," said Manhattan head coach Walter Olsewski.
Varieur won the 200 free event with a time of 1:50.58; he won the 100 free in 50.67.
Other good performances Saturday came from Cullen Balcanoff and Matt Kaftanski, who finished 2-3 in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.03 and 2:12.49 respectively, and Mickey Ruddy, who finished third in the 50 free in 24.17. Balcanoff also took a third in the 100 backstroke in 58.61.
