RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan basketball program received its first National Letters of Intent for 2010-11 from 6'2" point guard Mike Alvarado and 6'1" shooting guard Kidani Brutus during the NCAA's Early Signing Period. The commitments of Alvarado and Brutus will help replace the production of four graduating scholarship seniors.
Alvarado is a local product from All Hallows High School in the Bronx. He was named to the New York Daily News All-Bronx First Team as a junior averaging 13.2 points per game. Alvarado helped lead All Hallows to the CHSAA Class 'AA' intersectional final and a near upset of powerhouse Rice with 15 points in the title game.
Brutus is a junior college transfer from Carl Albert State in Oklahoma. The Bronx native averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and nearly one steal per game in his first year at Carl Albert State. Brutus, a pure shooter with good range, shot 49% from the field, 42% from 3-point territory and converted 70% of his free-throw attempts in 25 games last season. Brutus attended high school at Wings Academy in New York City and averaged 15.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists as a senior.
Manhattan will graduate senior guards Antoine Pearson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Dominic's), Darryl Crawford (Harlem, N.Y./All Hallows), Patrick Bouli (Cameroon/Massanutten Military Academy) and forward Brandon Adams (Yonkers, N.Y./Kent School).
