New York, N.Y. -- Senior Malin Marmbrandt took home a gold medal in the long jump Friday at the Albany Great Dane Classic to lead parade of Manhattan College track and field athletes posting IC4A/ECAC and Metropolitan Indoor Track and Field Championship marks. At the meet, Jasper freshman Brian McGovern became only the second Manhattan pole vaulter ever go over 16 feet in the event.
From a team perspective, Manhattan's men's team finished sixth overall at the meet, while the women's team finished ninth.
Marmbrandt won the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.79m; she also set a personal record in the 55m hurdles event with a time of 8.31s. McGovern vaulted 4.95m to post an IC4A and Met qualifying mark to take a silver medal in the event.
Another highlight on the night was sophomore Heidi Palacios setting an ECAC qualifying mark and personal best in the 500m run (1:15.52) and leading the 4x400m relay team that also included Ashley Bowman, Jackie Hargrove and Cara Rostant to a season best 3:53.04.
Other championship qualifying performances by Manhattan track and field athletes on the night included:
- Alex Hudak, John King, Kevin D'Emic and Milos Vuckovic posting a 10:11.65 to qualify for the IC4As and Mets in the distance medley relay.
- Andrea Nyback high jumping 1.60m (to place seventh) and running 8.31 in the 55m hurdles to post Met qualifying marks in both events. 8.31(Mets)
- Siri Fagerlund running a 7.36 in the 55m dash to post a personal record and Met qualifying mark.
- Justin Chiaravalle hurdling the 55m hurdles in 7.68 to post a personal record and IC4A mark.
- Maria Jangsten running the 500m in 1:18.15 to post a Met qualifying time and personal record.
- Emmy Koskinen running the 500m in 1:17.42 to post a Met qualifying time and personal record.
- Jackie Hargrove running the 500 in a Met qualifying time of 1:17.28
- Bowman running the 200m dash in 25.10 for a ECAC and Met qualifying time.
- Melissa Yap vaulting 3.30m in the pole vault to post a Met qualifying time and personal record.
- Laura Bednarz posting a 3.30m in the pole vault to qualifying for the Mets.
- Albert Johnson III posting a Met qualifying mark of 6.81m in the long jump
- Jamie Spataro also posting a Met qualifying mark of 6.87 in the long jump.
- Roman Ewald throwing a IC4A/Met qualifying mark of 15.84m in the shot put to take a bronze medal.
- Clare Fitzgerald throwing 13.51m in the shot to qualifying for the Mets.
- Billy Wilkens running a 8:53.37 to post a Met qualifying and personal record time in the 3000m run.
