Manhattan Releases Non-Conference Men's Basketball Schedule

2010-2011 Non-Conference Schedule

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team is scheduled for 12 non-conference contests for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign. The Jaspers' competitive slate will be highlighted by their participation in the Old Spice Classic at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., over Thanksgiving weekend.

Manhattan is guaranteed three games against the Old Spice Classic field that also includes: Boston College, California, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Temple and Wisconsin. Pairings will be reveled on national television next Thurs., Aug. 5 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNews.

For the fifth straight year, the Jaspers open the season against NJIT, a renewed recent rivalry which will be played on Nov. 13 in Newark, N.J. Manhattan makes a debut before its home crowd in Draddy Gymnasium on Nov. 17 against Ivy League member Penn. The Jaspers and Quakers last met in 2003 in the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.

Manhattan welcomes Long Island to Riverdale on Nov. 20, before flying to the Sunshine State for the Old Spice Classic. The fifth annual event features 12 games through three days, Nov. 25, 26 and 28 at The Field House sponsored by HP.

The Jaspers will visit cross-borough rival Fordham on Dec. 8 for the 103rd "Battle of the Bronx". Manhattan enjoys back-to-back home games against America East member Binghamton (Dec. 11) and Colonial Athletic Association member Hofstra (Dec. 18).

Manhattan heads to Ohio on Dec. 22 for its Mid-American Conference match up with Bowling Green at Anderson Arena. The Jaspers then play the return game in a home-and-home series with Florida Atlantic on Dec. 30 in Boca Raton.

The Jaspers complete their non-league slate on Feb. 19 with an ESPNU Bracketbuster contest. It will be the eighth consecutive year Manhattan has participated in the event and it will serve as the road team this season. The Jaspers will be assigned an opponent a few weeks prior to the contest. Previous opponents have been the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2004), George Mason (2005), Long Beach State (2006), Eastern Michigan (2007), Binghamton (2008), William & Mary (2009) and Towson (2010).

Manhattan will have a new look in 2010-2011 returning six scholarship players, while adding six new faces to the roster. Fans can get their first look at the Jaspers in the preseason at the annual Green/White Game. The date of the scrimmage has yet to be determined.
