RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team has been picked to finish eighth in 2010 according to the annual MAAC Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches. Loyola, the conference's defending champion, was selected to finish atop the MAAC garnering 96 points. Fairfield forward Jasmin Corniel was named the Preseason Player of the Year.
The Lady Jaspers return 16 letterwinners, including two-time team captain and senior back Kara Bucci, from the 2009 squad which advanced to the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals. Manhattan battled through 110 minutes to earn a 1-1 double overtime draw against top-seeded Loyola, before being eliminated from the tournament by virtue of a shootout. Lady Jaspers' head coach Brendan Lawler also welcomes 10 newcomers to the program in his first year at the helm.
Manhattan begins the 2010 campaign at home on Aug. 27 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park.
