RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College Athletic Department has appointed Hudson Valley Bone & Joint Surgeons Anthony Maddalo, M.D., Gregg Cavaliere, M.D., and Nicole Solomos, D.O. to serve as the Jaspers' team physicians effective immediately. These sports medicine specialists will provide the necessary care to Manhattan's 300+ Division I student-athletes, replacing long-time team physician Dr. George Unis (1972-2010).
"It is truly exciting to have some of the top professionals in the area to join our medical staff," stated Director of Athletics Robert Byrnes. "We take pride in providing our student-athletes who compete at such a high level with the best resources in this area."
Dr. Maddalo '76, an alumnus of Manhattan College, has worked with athletes of all levels of play since completing his orthopedic training at Lenox Hill Hospital in 1986. He serves as the assistant team physician of the New York Rangers Hockey Club for the last 24 years and has worked with the Westchester Flames Soccer Team since 1999. Dr. Maddalo was also involved in the care of players from the New York Cosmos Soccer Club and the New York Jets Football Club. Since 1986, Maddalo has been an attending physician at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, and has served in many capacities including Director of Surgery, Vice President of the Medical Staff and Member of the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Cavaliere has spent the last 15 years with the Hudson Valley Bone & Joint practice where he has focused on sports medicine, with particular emphasis on the knee and shoulder. He completed his residency at Lenox Hill Hospital as well as a Sports Medicine Fellowship at New York University. Dr. Cavaliere has extensive experience in the care of athletes of all ages and levels. He served four years as the New York Islanders Orthopedic consultant and similarly for World Cup Soccer in 1994. Currently, he attends to the members of the Westchester Flames Professional Soccer Team. Dr. Cavaliere is frequently named to the "Best Doctors in New York" by New York Magazine and serves as Chief of Orthopedics at Phelps Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Solomos specializes in Primary Care Sports Medicine, and is Board Certified in Family Medicine, with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. She did a Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson - where she worked with two Division I athletic programs. Dr. Solomos is also affiliated with the College of Mt. St. Vincent and provides game coverage for the Westchester Flames Soccer Team. She is a member of the Westchester Women's Soccer League and East Hudson Women's Soccer League.
