FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - In its final match of the 2011-12 season, the Manhattan College women's tennis team (5-13, 2-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) dropped a 5-0 decision against Marist (8-7, 4-2 MAAC) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Tuesday.

All three doubles matches were competitive, but Marist pulled out the victory in each contest.  At No. 1 doubles, Lili Johnson (Tulsa, Okla.) and Brianna Turano (Nutley, N.J.) fell to Kelsey Raynor and Erin McCarthy by an 8-4 count.  Manhattan's Hilary Valenzuela (Mesa, Ariz.) and Caitlin Bricketto (Coral Springs, Fla.) held a 5-2 lead at No. 2 doubles before Marist's Sabrina Tahir and Kayla O'Donovan won six of the last seven games to post an 8-6 victory.  The Red Foxes also earned a come-from-behind victory at No. 3 doubles, as Joanna Sun and Tessa Lewis notched an 8-5 win over Christina Ton (Milipitas, Calif.) and Alyssa Rosello (Garden City, N.Y.).

Sun topped Bricketto by a 6-0, 6-0 count at No. 3 singles, and Rosello fell to O'Donovan by the same count in the No. 6 position.  Marist then clinched the victory when McCarthy beat Valenzuela, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.  At No. 1 singles, Raynor easily won the first set before Johnson rallied to take the lead in the second.  However, Raynor held on for a 6-0, 7-5 victory in the last match that was completed.

With the hour getting late and the outcome already decided, the remaining two matches were left unfinished.  In a very competitive matchup at No. 4 singles, Marielle Campbell had just taken the first set against Turano, 7-5, when the match was halted.  At No. 5 singles, Stephanie Tsao (Scarsdale, N.Y.) had a 4-3 lead over Tahir in the second set when play was stopped.  Tahir won the first, 6-1.

The match was the final contest in the collegiate careers of Ton and Valenzuela.
