RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College softball team will conclude the 2012 season this weekend with a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheaders. The Jaspers (8-35, 3-9 MAAC) host Fairfield (26-24, 8-4 MAAC) at 12 p.m. on Saturday on Gaelic Park, then visit Saint Peter's (5-42, 1-13 MAAC) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Saturday's doubleheader marks the final home twinbill in the careers of Manhattan seniors Amanda Berrios (Carteret, N.J.), Kelly Murray (Leominster, Mass.) and Carla Velasquez (Miami, Fla.). The trio were a part of three consecutive MAAC Tournament teams, including Manhattan's first-ever MAAC regular season championship squad in 2009. They will be recognized in an on-field ceremony prior to the first game. The Senior Day ceremony and both games of the twinbill will be broadcast live on JasperVision.
Offensively, Manhattan is led by Kate Bowen (Newtown, Conn.), who boasts a .352 batting average, 45 hits, 21 runs scored, eight doubles, four home runs and 19 RBIs. Bowen also has the best ERA on the team (3.74). Meghan McDevitt (Nutley, N.J.) is tied for the team lead with four home runs, while Amanda Babcock (Haverstraw, N.Y.) has scored 19 times. Kelsi Redding (Tucson, Ariz.) has picked up four wins in the circle and also leads the Jaspers with 73 strikeouts.
Fairfield enters the weekend with a chance to clinch a berth in the MAAC Tournament. Kristen Filicia paces the Stags with a .325 batting average and 50 hits. Filicia and Lauren Liseth have both scored 34 runs, while Rae Ball leads the team in both home runs (8) and RBIs (33). Ball also has a 12-9 record and 3.24 ERA in the circle. Rebecca Trott has struck out 127 hitters this season to go along with her team-best 14 wins and 2.39 ERA.
Nicole Olmedo leads Saint Peter's with a .308 batting average, 41 hits, seven home runs and 20 RBIs. She's also second on the team in runs (18) and doubles (8). Alexis Gallagher has scored 19 runs for the Peahens, and Francesca D'Amato paces the squad with 10 doubles. Shelby Beaver has logged 112.2 innings in the circle, while Erica Colon's 33 strikeouts are a team-high.
