RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Rhode Island notched both of its goals within a 13 minute stretch in the second half as the Manhattan women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss Sunday in Kingston, R.I. Coming off a 2-1 victory over Lafayette in the Jaspers' home opener Friday, Manhattan (2-3) could not carry its offensive momentum into its match with the Rams. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Leyh scored the game winner in the 54^th minute, and then she assisted Rhode Island's (5-2-1) insurance goal in the 67^th minute to get past the Jaspers.

Manhattan senior Kara Davis and freshman Kristen Skonieczny split halves in net for the second straight contest. Davis did not have to make a save in the first half to keep the match scoreless at intermission. Skonieczny was tested in the second half making three saves, but she was responsible for giving up the decisive goals as she was on record for the loss.

Rhode Island's offense overpowered the Jaspers outshooting them 15-1 and holding a 5-2 corner kick advantage. Rams' starting goalkeeper junior Chelsea Broghamer played all but the final three minutes of the match to improve to a perfect 3-0 in net.

Leyh broke the scoreless tie at the 53:59 mark when she connected on a strike from 18 yards out into the right side of the net. It was her second goal of the season. Then with 66.49 on the clock, sophomore forward Nicole Genzardi finished on a feed from Leyh for her first goal of the year.

Manhattan looks to rebound on Wednesday when the Jaspers return to Gaelic Park to square off with Wagner. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
