RIVERDALE, N.Y. - After helping the Manhattan College volleyball team post three home wins last week, freshman outside hitter Sydney Volovski (Oswego, Ill.) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Volovski averaged 2.67 kills per set while hitting a combined .273 in the Jaspers' first three home matches against Lafayette, Marist and Siena.
Volovski tallied seven kills in Manhattan's 3-0 win over Lafayette in the home opener on Wednesday night. She then pounded 12 kills and added two blocks against Marist on Saturday, as the Jaspers posted a four-set victory. Volovski capped the week by slamming a team-high 13 kills in the come-from-behind triumph against Siena on Sunday. She hit .407 against the Saints, committing just two errors in 27 swings, while also recording five digs and two blocks. For the week, Volovski totaled 32 kills, nine digs and five blocks. She's the first Jasper to earn MAAC weekly honors this season. Manhattan (7-8, 2-2 MAAC) looks to continue its three-match winning streak on Wednesday night, when Rider (6-6, 0-3 MAAC) visits Draddy Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. showdown. The Jaspers then conclude their six-match homestand against Niagara (6-7, 3-1 MAAC) and Canisius (7-7, 4-0 MAAC) this weekend. |
