Sydney Volovski Picks Up Third Straight MAAC Rookie of the Week

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Freshman Sydney Volovski (Oswego, Ill.) of the Manhattan College volleyball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the third successive time on Monday.  Volovski hit a combined .267 and averaged 3.20 kills per set in five-set matches at Rider and Loyola over the weekend.

Against Rider on Saturday, Volovski recorded a team-high 18 kills on .302 hitting while also notching four digs.  Then on Sunday at Loyola, she pounded a team-best 14 kills and added five blocks, as Manhattan earned a five-set victory.

Volovski is averaging 3.00 kills per set and hitting a combined .286 over her last eight matches, during which time Manhattan is 6-2.  Overall, she ranks third on the team in both kills (2.57 kps) and hitting percentage (.243).

The Jaspers (10-10, 5-4 MAAC) currently sit in fifth place in the MAAC at the midway point of the conference schedule.  Manhattan faces Loyola (10-8, 3-4 MAAC) again, this time at Draddy Gymnasium, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
