PRINCETON, N.J. – Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) of the Manhattan College outdoor track & field team set a school record in the women's hammer throw on day one of the Sam Howell Invitational from Princeton University's Weaver Stadium on Friday. Wehri finished third with a mark of 58.50 meters (192 feet, three inches), breaking her own record of 58.33 m (191'4), set in 2013.
Meanwhile, in the men's hammer throw, Manhattan had a 1-2 finish. Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden) won the competition with a toss of 67.70 m (222'1), which was the fourth-best mark in the NCAA so far this season. Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.) also improved his standing on the NCAA East Preliminary Round qualifying list by taking second with a 59.35 m (194'9) effort.
In addition, Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) tied for fifth in the men's pole vault with a leap of 4.40 m (14'5¼) and Shane Beyer (Brick, N.J.) posted a time of 15:12.72 in the 5000 meters, which was good for 31st place out of 57 competitors.
The rest of the meet is scheduled for Saturday. Field events get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the men's javelin, while action on the track starts at 12 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relays.
