Riverdale, NY – Fueled by a strong first quarter, UMass Lowell defeated Manhattan 13-6 in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.

The River Hawks improve to 2-4 with the win while the Jaspers fall to 2-5.

In the first quarter, UMass Lowell scored the first five goals before freshman Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) notched an unassisted score with 48 seconds to play in the stanza.

The River Hawks immediately responded with four of the next five goals in building a 9-2 lead. Down but not out, Manhattan answered with three-straight scores to end the half as sophomore Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) found the back of the net twice before freshman Mike Lombardi (West Islip, NY / West Islip) registered his first collegiate goal in trimming the deficit to 9-5.

Unfortunately, that would as close as the Jaspers would get as the visitors recorded four of the five goals after halftime to provide the final 13-6 tally.

Giarratana’s two goals led the way for the Manhattan offense while junior Joseph Bressingham (Glen Cove, NY / Nassau CC) went 10-of-17 on face-offs with five ground balls.

Junior Michael Zingaro (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Walter Panas) was extremely solid in the net, recording a season-high 18 saves with while matching Bressingham with a team-best five ground balls.

Isaac Bot scored four goals to lead the way for UMass Lowell while Grant Lardieri made nine saves in earning the win.

The Jaspers return to action at Detroit Mercy on Saturday, March 18 with opening face-off tabbed for 11:00 am.
