UAlbany Defeats Manhattan 7-3 In Non-Conference Match-Up
Albany, NY - UAlbany defeated Manhattan 7-3 in non-conference action at Varsity Field.
The Great Danes improve to 16-22 while the Jaspers fall to 13-29.
In defeat, Junior Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep) went 4-for-5 with a double and a run to pace a 10-hit Manhattan attack. Sophomore Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) also a good day at the park, finishing up 2-for-4 with a RBI.
The Jaspers opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first as senior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / Hopewell Valley) plated classmate Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) with a RBI ground out.
UAlbany responded with seven unanswered runs before Manhattan scored a run in the eighth with a two-out rally. Freshman Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) notched a double before scoring on a Barrella RBI single.
Bisset capped the scoring in the ninth, leading off with a single before advancing to third on a pair of wild pitches. Forlow then plated Bisset with a RBI ground out in providing the final 7-3 count.
Travis Collins went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to lead the way for the Great Danes with Angelo Spedafino earning the win, yielding one run on five hits with two strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Manhattan returns to action with a 2:00 pm doubleheader against Quinnipiac on Saturday, May 6 at Dutchess Stadium.
