RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? For the third consecutive season, Manhattan College senior designated player Danielle Just (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) has been selected to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason all-conference team. The MAAC also announced the results of the preseason coaches' poll on Thursday, and Manhattan was tabbed to finish seventh. Defending MAAC champion Canisius was predicted to repeat.
Just has earned a place on the All-MAAC First Team in each of her first three seasons. Last year she led the Lady Jaspers with three home runs and tied for the team lead with 12 RBIs, while finishing second on the squad in runs (13), and third in batting average (.264) and hits (28).
As a team, Manhattan collected 33 points in the poll of the MAAC's nine head coaches. Canisius placed first with 79 points, 10 points ahead of second-place Niagara. Fairfield was third with 63 points, followed by Marist with 43 points. Iona and Siena tied for fifth place with 39 points each. After the Lady Jaspers, Rider and Saint Peter's rounded out the poll, finishing in a tie for eighth place with 20 points apiece.
The Lady Jaspers open the 2009 campaign with four games at the Maryland Round-Robin on March 7-8.
