Women's Lacrosse Falls To Siena 13-10 Despite Several Comebacks

Gutenberger Named MAAC Rookie of Year; Hickey, Morrison, Leonard Named to All-MAAC Second Team

New Rochelle, NY ? Manhattan College's Chrissy Gutenberger has been named the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year and was also named to the All-MAAC First Team, the MAAC announced this evening.  Additionally, teammates Keri Morrison, Caralyn Hickey and Breana Leonard were named to the All-MAAC Second team.

 

Fairfield University's Kristen Coleman was selected as the Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, while fellow Stag Lauren Chatnik earned Defensive Player of the Year honors to headline the 2009 Women's Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams, as voted by the league's head coaches. Fairfield's Mike Waldvogel earned Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year honors in his first year in charge of the Stags.

 

Gutenberger, a 5-6 freshman Lady Jasper midfielder, was first in the conference with 4.33 points per game and second in goals with 3.40 per contest. She also scored three game-winning goals as she helped Manhattan qualify for the MAAC Championship for the first time since 2006. Gutenberger was selected as the Rookie of the Week four times in 2009.

 

Hickey, a junior from Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River H.S., tallied 44 goals during the MAAC regular season and added 7 assists to 51 points.  She also tallied three game-winning goals. Morrison, a junior from Yorktown Height, N.Y./Yorktown H.S.) was a Lady Jasper stalwart in the midfield  She collected 47 ground balls and caused 42 turnovers (both ranked second in the MAAC), and she had 30 draw controls.  Leonard, a freshman from Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore H.S.,  had 31 ground balls and caused 22 turnovers providing an effective defensive shield for the Manhattan squad.
