Yarusso, Fiorinelli Named MAAC Weekly Performers
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Two members of the Manhattan women’s lacrosse team were named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly performances as announced today by the league office. Freshman Megan Yarusso was named MAAC Rookie of the Week while Christina Fiorinelli earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Fiorinelli registered six saves for Manhattan as they defeated DelawareState 19-2 on Saturday, holding the Hornets to the second lowest point total in program history. The MAAC leader in ground balls per game also picked up three more on the day while causing one turnover. It was the second consecutive win for Fiorinelli who is averaging 9.75 saves per contest.
Meanwhile, Yarusso led an offensive explosion for the Jaspers in their win over DelawareState. The freshman tallied two goals and an assist against the Hornets, leading all players with three points. Her two goals came on only three shots for the midfielder, who has registered in a point in all but two games this season. She is currently leading the team in points (13) and assists (6), while tying for third with seven goals.
The pair will lead the women's lacrosse team into a road matchup with Central Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon. The Jaspers and Blue Devils are set to begin at 4 p.m. in New Britain, Conn. after it was rescheduled due to last week's snowstorm.
