RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College softball team (22-12) continues its 10-game homestand by welcoming Lafayette (6-19) to Gaelic Park for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.  The twinbill represents the first matchup between the teams since the 2012 season, as well as the Leopards’ first trip to Riverdale since 2011.

Manhattan is coming off a doubleheader split with Central Connecticut State on Saturday.  The Jaspers took the first game, 8-1, before the Blue Devils won the nightcap, 5-2 in 10 innings.  Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT), who pitched the first no-hitter in program history on April 12, is the current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week.  She ranks second in the MAAC in ERA (1.88) and holds opponents to a .188 batting average.  Williams also leads the Jaspers with 63 strikeouts.  Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY), meanwhile, boasts a 1.97 ERA and a conference-high 12 wins.

Offensively, the Jaspers are led by Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT), who’s hitting .307 on the season.  Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ) has a .298 batting average, and she leads the MAAC in triples (7) and runs scored (30) while ranking second with 18 stolen bases.  Alexa Dawid (Milford, CT) paces the league in steals (19), while Victoria Ross (Bloomfield, NJ) is the team leader in home runs (4) and RBIs (23).

Lafayette took two out of three in a Patriot League series against Colgate over the weekend.  Stephanie Thomas, the current Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, has four wins and a 2.98 ERA.  She’s also tied for the team lead with seven RBIs.  Maddie Wensel has driven in seven runs this season, as well, while Miranda Skurla paces the squad with five doubles.  Samantha Sweigart leads the Leopards with a .286 batting average, 20 hits and 11 runs scored.
