Cosgrove Named MAAC Pitcher Of The Week
Edison, NJ - Junior LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) has been named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his career after firing his first career complete game shutout against perennial MAAC power Canisius last weekend.
In Manhattan's 2-0 win, the Staten Island native struck out 10 while scattering just two hits over 7.0 dominating innings of work.
Cosgrove, who needed just 98 pitches to complete his masterpiece, didn't allow a runner to get past second base while inducing eight groundouts and picking a runner off first. Getting stronger as the game wore on, Cosgrove fanned a pair to end the sixth while quelling a one-out Canisius rally before striking out the side in the seventh to end the game.
Thanks to his fourth double-figure strikeout performance of the year, Cosgrove's MAAC-leading total of 93 now places him third in the all-time Jasper single-season annals behind just former Milwaukee Brewer farmhand Chris Cody (105) and former St. Louis Cardinal Mike Parisi (104).
Cosgrove is 4-6 while also averaging a MAAC-best 11.73 strikeouts per nine innings with, four complete games and a 4.54 ERA over 71.1 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .269 average.
The hard-throwing lefty collected his first MAAC Pitcher of the Week honor last year after a dominating performance at Niagara and now has 213 career strikeouts over 216.0 innings.
Cosgrove returns to the mound on Thursday, May 18 when he gets the ball in game one against Saint Peter's at Dutchess Stadium with first pitch slated for 12:00 pm.
