Brian McGovern to Receive Special Award From Athletics Ireland

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College senior pole vaulter Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) will be presented with a Special Recognition Award by Athletics Ireland at the association's National Athletics Awards on Saturday, Nov. 17.  He will be honored for setting the Irish under-23 national record in the event during the 2011-12 indoor season.

McGovern cleared 5.22 meters (17 feet, 1½ inches) at the Armory Collegiate Challenge from the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Feb. 23, 2012.  That mark, which was also a new school-record, shattered the Irish under-23 mark in the event.  With that effort, McGovern earned a place on the Armory All-Star Team, which honors the athlete with the single-best performance at the Armory during a given indoor season.

McGovern won both the indoor and outdoor Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) titles in 2011-12, marking the third straight season in which he swept the MAAC Championships in the pole vault.
