RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Former Elon women's soccer standout Jaclyn Wood has joined the Manhattan College women's soccer program as an assistant coach, head coach Brendan Lawler announced. Wood was a two-time team captain at Elon and has four years of coaching experience on the soccer camp circuit and with the Olympic Development Region staff in the summer of 2012.

"Jaclyn has been a captain of every team she's been on at every level, from high school, through club, and her time at Elon," Lawler said. "She is still thought of as a leader to her past teammates and coaches.  As our program continues to move toward competing for a MAAC Championship, Jaclyn's ability to connect with and encourage our players will go a long way toward making our goal a reality."

Wood replaces former Manhattan College women's soccer player Kara Bucci on the staff. Bucci served as an assistant coach for a year and a half on Lawler's staff and was an integral part of the Jaspers' staff during that time.

"We are all going to miss Kara very much and want to wish her the best as she moves on," Lawler stated. "She was a great help on and off the field to me and more importantly to the players. Kara has a long connection to the Jasper community and hopefully always will."
Wood comes to Manhattan College after graduating in May 2013 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health with a minor in exercise science. A New Jersey native, Wood spent one year at Villanova before transferring to Elon as a sophomore. She started 52 of 63 games at Elon in the midfield, totaling six goals and two assists in her career.
A two-time member of Elon's President's List for academic achievement, Wood also received the Janie P. Brown Emerging Professional award during her junior year and gained a spot on the Southern Conference's All-Academic team as a senior.
"Jaclyn is going to be a great addition to the women's soccer family at Manhattan," Lawler said. "Her teaching background coupled with her success on the field at every level and her love for the game will make her a highly valued member of our program."
The Jaspers will begin the 2013 season on Friday, August 23 against Fordham at Gaelic Park at 7 p.m.
