Complete list of USTFCCCA Division I All-Americans
EUGENE, Ore. – Manhattan College’s Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) and Tom Bechert (Munich, Germany) were officially named All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. Koita was selected Second Team All-America in the high jump, while Bechert was an All-America honorable mention in the decathlon.
The USTFCCCA awards All-America honors based on an athlete’s performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which took place from June 5-8 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. Athletes who finished first-eighth were named First Team All-American, while the ninth-16th place finishers made up the Second Team. All other athletes who qualified for Nationals received honorable mention recognition.
Koita finished 16th in the high jump, clearing 2.15 meters (seven feet, ½ inch). Bechert was unfortunately forced to withdraw from the decathlon with an injury. He sat in 23rd place with 3500 points after the first day of the competition. This marks the first time since 2009 that Manhattan has had multiple athletes honored with All-America selections. The Jaspers have now had 30 All-Americans in Dan Mecca’s 20-year tenure as head coach.
