Sarich Adds Five to 2017 Roster
RIVERDALE, NY – Head Coach Lora Sarich has completed her first recruiting class at the helm of the Manhattan College volleyball program. Five players—Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO), Reyn Hoffman (Ventura, CA), Jade Jeffrey (Tamarac, FL), Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON) and Claudine Taylor (Charlotte, NC) will join the Jaspers as freshmen for the 2017 season.
“We are excited to have such a strong initial recruiting class,” Sarich said. “Each of these players knows what it takes to win a championship and will help us in our pursuit of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title. They will all put forth their best effort every day, which will make our team extremely competitive this fall and moving forward.”
A 6-foot-1 middle blocker, Hoener was a four-year starter at Incarnate Word Academy. She earned back-to-back first team all-conference selections and was also a three-time First Team All-District choice. Hoener was named Incarnate Word's Offensive MVP in 2015 after receiving the Most Improved Player award as a sophomore.
“Erin is a phenomenal blocker and is a force at the net,” Sarich said. “She has great eye sequencing and works very hard getting up in transition.”
Hoffman is a 5-foot-4 defensive specialist who was on both the indoor and beach volleyball teams at Ventura High School. Her team won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 title last season, when she was named honorable mention all-conference. At the club level, Hoffman was the Pacific Northwest Qualifier MVP after leading her squad to the championship.
“Reyn's defense will take us to the next level,” Sarich said. “Her effort is relentless and will be contagious among her teammates.”
The 6-foot Jeffrey has played both opposite and outside hitter at Cardinal Gibbons High School. She helped Cardinal Gibbons win a state championship and received the Offensive Award. Jeffrey was also a three-time recipient of the Most Improved award.
“Jade has the power and finesse that will allow her to attack the ball in a lot of different areas,” Sarich said. “She will provide physicality at the net.”
Miller, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, was the captain and team MVP at Oakville Trafalgar High School. She was selected to the district all-star team as a senior. Her club team, the HRVC Hurricanes, won the 2017 Ontario Provincial Championship after earning a Canadian National U-17 title in 2016.
“Meagan is a dynamic attacker with experience all across the net,” Sarich said. “She excels in the middle with her speed.”
Taylor comes to Manhattan from Butler High School, where she holds school records for digs in a match, a season and a career. She twice earned first team all-conference honors at defensive specialist and received the Coaches Award in 2015. The 5-foot-5 Taylor was a North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year nominee after winning league MVP honors as a senior.
“Claudine will add ball control to our serve receive,” Sarich said. “It will allow our offense to run more efficiently and effectively.”They join a roster that also includes 10 returning letterwinners. The Jaspers begin the 2017 campaign at the Western Illinois Tournament on Aug. 25-26.
