RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Former Manhattan baseball standout Chris Cody ’06 was recently named Milwaukee Brewers Organizational Pitcher of the Year by MLB.com. Cody was promoted to the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A+ Florida State League and led the organization with a 1.81 ERA.
Cody, a left-hander from Brewster, N.Y., began the 2008 season with the West Virginia Power, a Class A affiliate of the Brewers of the South Atlantic League. During his tenure with the Power, Cody posted a 2-1 record, 1.74 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 31 innings of work. Cody was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week on June 2.
In mid June, Cody was appointed to Brevard County. He started 13 of 14 appearances for the Manatees, recorded a 1.83 ERA and struck out 62 over 83 and two third innings.
Cody is currently playing for the West Oahu Canefires of the Hawaii Winter Baseball League, an assignment by the Brewers organization.
Cody holds the career records at Manhattan in strikeouts (295), wins (29) and complete games (19). He led the Jaspers to the biggest win in program history over Nebraska in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Cody tossed a complete game, struck out seven and allowed one run, guiding Manhattan to a 4-1 victory over current New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain.
