RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College women's tennis team was picked to finish fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced on Wednesday.  Two-time defending MAAC champion Fairfield is predicted to win the league title again in 2011, according to the conference's seven head coaches.

Fairfield was the unanimous choice to repeat, collecting all seven first-place votes and 49 points in the poll.  Marist placed second with 41 points, while Loyola was third with 35.  Siena earned the No. 4 spot in the poll with 26 points, followed by the Lady Jaspers with 20.  Saint Peter's (18) and Rider (7) rounded out the poll.

Last season, the Lady Jaspers went 2-5 in conference play and lost to Loyola in the MAAC quarterfinals.  However, in a change from prior years, only the top four teams in the final regular season standings will advance to the 2011 MAAC Championships, which will be held on April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Manhattan went 3-4 overall and 1-1 in MAAC matches during the fall season.  The Lady Jaspers open the spring portion of their schedule on Feb. 19, when they visit Navy (5-2) at 11 a.m.
