Jaspers’ Sophomore Right-Hander John Soldinger Records 10 Strikeouts in Complete Game Victory at Siena
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College sophomore John Soldinger earned MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week as announced on Monday by league officials. Soldinger continued his stellar sophomore campaign by pitching his third complete game of the year and striking out a career-high 10 batters in a victory at Siena on Saturday. Soldinger propelled the Jaspers to a 4-1 win over the Saints in their conference opener by yielding just two hits and registering a slim .074 batting average against. The Bay Shore, N.Y. native retired the first 12 Siena hitters in order, and then closed the game strong by sitting down eight of the last 10 batters faced. With the victory, Soldinger improved his record to 3-1 in five starts this season. Soldinger holds a team-leading 1.76 ERA and has 24 strikeouts in six appearances this season. He has limited opponents to a mere .175 batting average against. Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday when the Jaspers travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for 3:30 p.m. affair. The Jaspers are home at Van Cortlandt Park this weekend, beginning on Saturday when Manhattan hosts Fairfield at 12 p.m. |
