RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College graduate Patrick Waldron has been added to the women's basketball staff as an assistant coach for the 2011-12 campaign, Head Coach John Olenowski announced today.  Waldron had served as the team's head student manager for the past three seasons.

"We are thrilled to add Pat to our coaching staff," Olenowski said.  "He has a tremendous work ethic and has already been invaluable to our program.  I truly believe that he will be one of the brightest young coaches in our profession."

Waldron will serve as the Lady Jaspers' travel coordinator while also assisting with all other aspects of the program, including recruiting and opponent scouting.  As team manager, his duties included organization of equipment for practices and games, as well as assisting at practices.  He was also responsible for videotaping all games and maintaining in-game offensive specialty statistics.

"Coach Olenowski, Coach (Christine) Catalanotto and Coach (Sonia) Burke taught me a lot as a manager and influenced my knowledge of the game," Waldron said.  "I think the transition should be good.  I know what's expected out of the coaches here and, more importantly, what the program expects."

A 2011 Manhattan graduate with a degree in physical education, Waldron served as an instructor at the Dutchmen Basketball Camp in Orangeburg, N.Y., from 2006-10.  He coordinated the warm-up activities for the entire camp, as well as running specialized skill stations for campers ages 6-14.  In addition, Waldron worked with Old School Performance Training, aiding in the individual instruction of elementary and high school basketball players.

He played two years of varsity basketball at Tappan Zee High School, winning the Dutchman Basketball Award in 2006 and 2007.

The Lady Jaspers, who notched a school-record 24 wins and advanced to the semifinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) last season, open the 2011-12 campaign by playing in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) for the first time.
