|Manhattan Releases 2011-12 Men's and Women's Swimming Schedules|
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's and women's swimming teams unveiled their 2011-12 season schedule this afternoon. The slate features 11 home meets, nine of which will include both the men's and women's squads, at Riverdale Country Day School.
In addition to the home schedule, the Jaspers will compete in meets throughout the Northeast Region, including New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
Manhattan debuts on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Marywood College in Scranton, Pa. The meet begins at 1 p.m. Both the men's and women's team make their home debut at Riverdale Country Day School on Friday, Oct. 21, against Mt. St. Vincent College at 6 p.m. The following day is the homecoming meet, as the Jaspers take on Pace at 2 p.m.
The men and women will then head south to Emmitsburg, Md., for a two-day meet at Mt. St. Mary's on Oct. 28-29. The men's team will take on VMI, NJIT and McDaniel College, while the women will face VMI, McDaniel and the host Mountaineers. Friday's session begins at 5 p.m. and action gets underway at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
From Nov. 4-19, the Jaspers will be at the friendly home confines of Riverdale Country Day School for a six-match homestand. The Jaspers begin their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate against Iona at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Manhattan is back in action the next day against Bridgeport at 2 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 11, the men's team will take on Hunter while the women will tangle with St. Joseph's. Both encounters start at 6:30 p.m. The following day, the Jaspers jump back into MAAC action against Fairfield at 2 p.m. The lengthy homestand concludes the following weekend when the Jaspers battle Baruch on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. and St. Francis (NY) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. On Nov. 20, the men's team finishes the three-day run with a 1 p.m. matchup against NJIT on the road in Newark, N.J.
Following a two-week layoff, both squads jump back into action at MAAC rival Saint Peter's on Friday, Dec. 9. The Jaspers will face the home team, Saint Peter's, and Montclair State starting at 6 p.m. Manhattan returns home the following day to take on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 2 p.m.
The Jaspers' winter training program takes them to Hawaii from Jan. 7-16 in preparations for the second half of the season. Manhattan then returns to MAAC action with a home tussle against Saint Peter's at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. Senior Day will be the following day, Saturday, Jan. 28, when the men's team takes on NJIT at 1:45 p.m.
The season concludes with two championship events. The MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will take place at Erie Community College in Buffalo for the second straight year from Feb. 15-18. Those who qualify will then compete at the ECAC Championships from Feb. 23-26.
Walter Olsewski returns for his 15th season as head coach of the women's team and his fourth at the helm of the men's program, which was reinstated in 2008.
