Monica Roeder Named MAAC Player of the Week
Roeder's eight treys broke the previous school record of seven three-pointers held by Wanda Camps and Brooke Renkens (twice). She also tied the Preseason WNIT record for three-pointers in a game set by Missouri State's Jackie Stiles, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer, in 1998. In addition, Roeder tied the Preseason WNIT mark for three-pointers in a tournament, sinking 12 in three games.
She shot 8-for-11 from three-point range while adding six rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block against ETSU. In Manhattan's first game of the weekend, a 69-52 loss to McNeese State, Roeder tallied a team-high 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting to go along with four boards and two assists. She averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting .654 (17-of-26) from the field and .733 (11-of-15) from downtown in the two games.
Her 35 points represent the highest single-game output by a MAAC women's basketball player this season. Roeder is currently averaging 19.7 points per game, the third-highest total in the MAAC. She also leads the MAAC in three-pointers (4.0 per game) and three-point percentage (.632) while ranking second in the league in field goal percentage (.553).
This marks the sixth MAAC weekly honor of Roeder's career. Roeder was named MAAC Rookie of the Week four times last season, as well as earning a Player of the Week nod on Nov. 14, 2010. A member of the 2010-11 MAAC All-Rookie Team, she was a Preseason Third Team All-MAAC selection this season.
The Jaspers (1-2) continue their season-opening five-game road trip with a 5 p.m. matchup at Army (3-1) on Wednesday.
