RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The 2012 Manhattan College softball schedule was released today by Head Coach Tom Pardalis. The 49-game slate gets underway with a doubleheader against Quinnipiac at Gaelic Park on Feb. 29, one of seven home dates on the schedule.
After opening the season with two against the Bobcats, the Jaspers head to Kissimmee, Fla., for their annual appearance in the Rebel Spring Games. Manhattan plays 10 games during their week in Florida (March 9-14), then will take part in the Seton Hall Pirate Classic for the second straight year. Monmouth, Texas Tech and host Seton Hall will also participate in the three-day tournament (March 16-18). The Jaspers then play doubleheaders at St. John's (March 21) and Lafayette (March 24) before opening Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a twinbill at Rider on March 31.
Manhattan returns home for the first time since the season opener with a doubleheader against Stony Brook on April 5. The Jaspers have Easter weekend off before making a pair of trips to the Capital Region in a four-day period. Manhattan visits Albany for a non-conference doubleheader on April 11 before taking on MAAC rival Siena for an April 14 twinbill. The Jaspers conclude the six-game road trip at Hartford a day later.
The Jaspers play their first home MAAC twinbill on April 21, when Canisius comes to Gaelic Park. The following day, Manhattan hosts two-time defending MAAC champion Iona. After visiting Fairleigh Dickinson on April 25, the Jaspers resume their MAAC schedule with a home twinbill against Niagara (April 28) and a visit to Marist (April 29).
Manhattan makes the short trip to Columbia for a pair of games on May 1, then concludes non-conference play with a home doubleheader against Wagner on May 3. The Jaspers wrap up their home slate by welcoming Fairfield to Gaelic Park on May 5. Manhattan then heads to Saint Peter's for its final doubleheader of the regular season on May 6.
The top four teams at the conclusion of the 16-game conference schedule qualify for the MAAC Softball Championships, which will once again be held at Marist' Gartland Field from May 10-13. Manhattan has played in the last three MAAC Tournaments and is looking to advance to the postseason in four straight seasons for the first time since 1993-96.
