Men’s Golf Adds Three for 2012-13 Seasons
"These three young men will be immediately beneficial to the team," said Wood. "We are returning with a strong core of players and we will have the depth to be ultra competitive in the MAAC. I am expecting to be top three and firmly believe we have the team to win it."
Ross Ketner (Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) was a three-year member of his varsity squad, qualifying for the Suffolk County Championship in each season. His senior year saw him post the third lowest scoring average in the Nassau/Suffolk Catholic High School Athletic Association while leading the team to a 16-1 match play record. Ketner finished his high school career with nine top-10 finishes for the Junior Met PGA.
Playing five years of varsity golf at Bayport-Blue Point High School, Michael Giannico (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) spent four years as the team's top golfer. He finished second in the Suffolk County Championship as a senior earning him All-County recognition as well as being named All-League for the fourth consecutive season. In 2009, Giannico won the Suffolk County junior golf tour championship and qualified for the LIGA Junior Tournament with a third place finish.
James Edgeworth (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) led his high school team to a perfect 16-0 match play record as a senior en route to capturing the NYC PSAL Championship. He also won his qualifying tournament for the New York State High School Federation by shooting a 76 at Split Rock Country Club.
The three freshmen will join a veteran group returning this season led by Matthew Creamer. Fall competition for the Jaspers begins on Sept. 7 when they take part in the Central Connecticut State University Fall Invitational.
