Burhans Named Head Coach at Manhattanville
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan women's lacrosse assistant coach Courtney Burhans as accepted the head coaching position at Manhattanville after one season with the Jaspers. It is the first head coaching job in her career after spending two years as an assistant with two schools.
Last year, Burhans was defensive coordinator, goalie coach and strength & conditioning coach for the Jaspers and helped guide freshman goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli to an NCAA best 3.79 ground balls per game.
"Courtney was a tremendous asset to the Manhattan women's lacrosse program," said Jaspers head coach Diane Haddeland. "We are sad to see her go but very excited for the opportunity to see her as a head coach. I have no doubt that Courtney will excel in this position. She will be a valuable person to the students, faculty and members of the Manhattanville Community."
The Valiants are a Division III program located in Purchase, N.Y. and are a member of the Freedom Conference. Last year the team advanced to the conference semifinals before being eliminated by FDU-Florham.
Prior to joining Manhattan she served as an assistant at Stony Brook University, again working with the defensive units. Burhans was a standout goalkeeper in her own right at Loyola (Md.) where she played from 2007-10.
A nationwide search to fill the position will begin immediately.
