Jaspers Release Complete 2012-13 Schedule
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In conjunction with the release of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate, the Manhattan College women's basketball unveiled its complete 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday. The 29-game docket is highlighted by a pair of doubleheaders with the Manhattan men's team and an ESPN3 date with defending MAAC champion Marist.
The previously-announced non-conference schedule features matchups against teams from seven different leagues. Manhattan will take on three teams that reached the 2012 postseason during non-conference play. Sacred Heart (Dec. 17) advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, while VCU (Nov. 14) participated in the Women's NIT and Holy Cross (Dec. 1) fell to the Jaspers in the quarterfinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational.
Manhattan plays four of its first six conference games on the road, starting with a matchup at Saint Peter's on Jan. 3. After hosting Rider on Jan. 6, the Jaspers hit the road for two straight, visiting Iona on Jan. 10 and Siena on Jan. 13. The Jaspers host Loyola for the last time as conference opponents on Jan. 18. That contest will be Manhattan's annual Kid's Day Out game. Manhattan then makes the short trip to Fairfield for a Jan. 20 matchup.
On Jan. 25, both defending MAAC champions come to Draddy Gymnasium for a doubleheader. The women's game against Marist gets underway at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3, ESPN's online streaming platform. This is a rematch of last season's ESPN3 matchup in which the Jaspers pulled off a 48-44 upset to end the Red Foxes' 34-game winning streak against MAAC opponents. The men's team hosts Loyola at 7 p.m.
The showdown with Marist starts a span where the Jaspers play five out of six at home. Manhattan hosts the rematch with Saint Peter's on Jan. 27 before visiting Rider on Jan. 31. On Feb. 3, the Jaspers host Canisius to open a three-game homestand. That contest is the first game of a Manhattan basketball doubleheader, as the Jasper men take on Saint Peter's following the women's game. The Jaspers conclude the homestand with matchups against Siena (Feb. 8) and Fairfield (Feb. 10).
The Jaspers start a four-game road trip with their final visit to Baltimore for a meeting with Loyola on Feb. 15. After visiting Marist on Feb. 17, Manhattan makes its annual Buffalo swing for matchups with Canisius (Feb. 22) and Niagara (Feb. 24).
Manhattan's annual "Pink Zone" game for breast cancer awareness will be on Feb. 28, when the Jaspers host Iona. Manhattan then concludes the regular season at home on March 3 with its second matchup against Niagara in eight days. This marks the second straight year in which the Jaspers and Purple Eagles will meet in the season finale.
The 2013 MAAC Championships will be held at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., from March 7-11. For the third consecutive season, the championship game will be nationally televised by ESPNU on Monday afternoon, March 11.
