Manhattan Opens Play at Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational
In the opening round of the "A" singles flight, Johnson took on Nisha Shah of Towson. She posted an 8-3 victory to move on to a round of 16 matchup with Seton Hall's Chloe Sher. However, Johnson fell to Sher by an 8-2 margin. Caitlin Bricketto (Coral Springs, Fla.) was also in the "A" flight of singles. In a match that featured a number of long rallies, she fell to Navy' Emani Decquir by a score of 8-2.
Going against Monmouth's Sarah Turner in the "C" flight, Clark opened the tournament with an 8-2 victory. She'll take on Dye Das of Navy in Saturday's quarterfinals. Alyssa Rosello (Garden City, N.Y.) took on Navy's Stefanie Ton, but dropped into the consolation bracket with an 8-0 loss.
Brianna Turano (Nutley, N.J.) and Stephanie Tsao (Scarsdale, N.Y.) were in the "B" flight of singles. Turano jumped out to a 6-3 lead on Loyola's Emily Hughes, but dropped the final five games to fall 8-6. Tsao lost to Towson's Lorena Ferrer by a score of 8-2. Megan Maffei (Stony Point, N.Y.) went against Katie Dewberry of George Mason in the opening round of flight "D," but suffered an 8-2 defeat. In the flight "D" round of 16, Ava Leischen (Newburgh, N.Y.) dropped an 8-0 decision against Navy's Cassandra Fisbeck.
The day began with doubles action. Bricketto and Tsao played in the opening round of the "A" flight, where they were beaten 8-0 by Erin Snook and Noelle Kaufmann of Navy. Johnson and Turano had a bye into the round of 16, but suffered an 8-3 loss to Austin Lavallii and Carlee Rizzolo of Nova Southeastern. In the "B" flight of doubles, Maffei and Leischen fell to Towson's Ferrer and Ariel Burke by a score of 8-0, while Rosello and Clark lost to Nova Southeastern's Bianca Roberts and Kamryn Blackwood by the same margin.
Action continues on Saturday with the consolation bracket in singles, as well as Clark's quarterfinal match in the flight "C" main draw.
