ANNAPOLIS, Md. - On day two of the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational from the USNA Tennis Courts at the U.S. Naval Academy, the Manhattan College women's tennis team concluded play with consolation round matches in the singles competition.  Megan Maffei (Stony Point, N.Y.) won two matches to reach the semifinals of the "D" flight consolation bracket.

Maffei notched an 8-2 victory over Monmouth's Courtney Ciandella, then earned a hard-fought 9-7 win over Towson's Amanda Ocker, setting up a semifinal matchup with Riley Archer of St. Bonaventure.  Archer had advanced to the semifinals by knocking off the Jaspers' Ava Leischen (Newburgh, N.Y.) 8-1, then eliminated Maffei by a score of 8-3.

Two other Jaspers reached the consolation semifinals in their respective singles flights.  Caitlin Bricketto (Coral Springs, Fla.) knocked off Monmouth's Nicole Lippens 8-4 before suffering an 8-0 loss to Megan Hahn of Loyola in flight "A," while Brianna Turano (Nutley, N.J.) played in the flight "B" consolation semifinals.  Turano beat Nova Southeasetern's Biana Roberts by a score of 8-2, then received a bye into the semifinals, where she faced another Nova Southeastern player-Charlotte Cote.  Cote notched an 8-4 victory to eliminate Turano from the tournament.

In flight "C," Catherine Clark (Salem, Conn.), who won her first match on Friday, played in the quarterfinals of the main draw.  Clark took on Navy's Dye Das, but dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision.  Alyssa Rosello (Garden City, N.Y.) was beaten 8-0 by Iryna Serdyuk of Nova Southeastern in the flight "C" consolation draw.  Stephanie Tsao (Scarsdale, N.Y.) also suffered an 8-0 loss to Seton Hall's Alex Landert in the consolation draw of flight "B."

Manhattan (2-0) now has two weeks off before returning to dual match action against Wagner (0-0) on Oct. 4.  It will be the Jaspers' only home match of the fall season, with play getting underway at 4:30 p.m. from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
