HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - On Sunday, September 30 the Manhattan women's lacrosse team traveled to Hofstra University's James M. Shuart Stadium to take part in the fourth annual Nick Collelouri Women's Lacrosse Classic.

The Jaspers were one of 11 teams to take part in the event which raised over $2,000 dollars for the HEADstrong Foundation. HEADstrong is the foundation created by former Hofstra Pride men's lacrosse player Nick Collelouri who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. He lost his battle with the disease on November 28, 2006 but his friends and family helped continue his vision.

That vision has led to the development of two lacrosse annual lacrosse tournaments, the men's being held at his high school in Ridley, Pa. To date, the Women's Collelouri Classic has raised almost $110,000 dollars in its first three years of existence.

The Foundation's mission is to raise money for cancer research, distribution of grants to survivors and patients of blood cancer, grants and scholarships along with providing financial assistance to families caring for a family member suffering from blood cancer.
