RIVERDALE, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, a member of the Manhattan College men's indoor track & field team has been selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Performer of the Week.  Tom Bechert (Munich, Germany) was recognized after qualifying for the IC4A Championships in a pair of events at the Jaspers' dual meet against Columbia at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Friday.

Bechert, who previously qualified for the IC4A Championships in the pole vault, added qualifying marks in the high jump and 60 meter hurdles against Columbia.  He cleared 2.04 meters (6 feet, 8¼ inches) to win the high jump, then posted a hurdle time of 8.1 seconds.  Bechert also competed in the long jump on Friday, winning the event with a mark of 6.88 m (22'7).

Bechert will compete in his first heptathlon of the indoor season at this weekend's Brother Jasper Invitational.  The first four events (60 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump) will be held on Friday, followed by the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meters on Saturday.  There will also be a full complement of field events on both days, with action scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. on Friday.
