RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College women's tennis team has been selected to finish seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season, according to the league's eight head coaches.  The Jaspers collected 19 points in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.  Defending MAAC champion Fairfield was picked to repeat.

Fairfield collected 61 points in the poll to lead the preseason rankings.  Loyola just edged Marist for the No. 2 spot, earning 54 points to the Red Foxes' 53.  Niagara (33), Saint Peter's (31) and Siena (29) were ranked fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, followed by the Jaspers.  Rider rounded out the poll with eight points.

The top four teams at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the MAAC Championships, which will be held at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J., on April 27-28.

Last season, Manhattan went 2-5 in conference play.  The Jaspers are 1-0 in MAAC play already this season after defeating Rider 6-1 on Sept. 15.  Manhattan, which went 2-1 overall during the fall portion of the schedule, begins the spring season on Friday, with a 6 p.m. matchup against Colgate (0-0) at the Armonk Indoor Tennis Center in Armonk, N.Y.
