Yamashiro Claims Fifth MAAC Libero of the Week Nod
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – For the fifth time this season, Manhattan College freshman Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, Hawaii) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Libero of the Week. She averaged 4.82 digs and 0.82 assists per set last week, as the Jaspers went 2-1 in road matches against Rider, Fairfield and Quinnipiac.
Yamashiro recorded a team-high 19 digs while also tallying four assists in Manhattan’s 3-1 victory at Rider on Wednesday. That win was the Jaspers’ 12th conference victory of the season, setting a new program record. After notching 13 digs against Fairfield on Saturday, Yamashiro had a 21-dig effort in a win at Quinnipiac on Sunday. She added five assists and a service ace against the Bobcats, as the Jaspers moved into first place in the MAAC.
She was previously honored on Sept. 3, Sept. 16, Oct. 8 and Oct. 15, and has been named Libero of the Week more than any other player in the conference this season. Yamashiro currently ranks fourth in the MAAC in digs, averaging 4.49 per set.
Manhattan (20-11, 13-4 MAAC) concludes the regular season with a 7 p.m. matchup at Iona (14-13, 12-5 MAAC) on Saturday. The Jaspers will clinch a berth in the MAAC Tournament, as well as at least a share of the regular season conference championship with a victory over the Gaels.
