Men's Lax Heads to Marist for MAAC Showdown
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Following an 11-day layoff, the Jaspers will hit the road for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) showdown with the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Manhattan enters the game with a 1-7 overall record and are 0-1 in MAAC play. Marist comes into Saturday's contest at 3-5, and 1-1 in conference play with a victory over Quinnipiac and a one-goal defeat at the hands of Siena.
Last year, the two teams met on Senior Day at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers handed the Red Foxes their only conference loss of the year, defeating Marist 14-12 in each team's final game of the regular season.
Both teams come into the match with a 1-2 mark over their last three games. For the Jaspers, senior Pat Hodapp has been at the forefront of the attack, leading the team with 15 points (10G, 5A) on the season. Juniors Andrew Hurst and Marcel Godino rank second on the team with nine points apiece.
Senior Sean McMahon has led the Manhattan defense, collecting a team-high 47 ground balls. McMahon also sits in second on the team in caused turnovers (11). Senior Dan McGreevy leads the team with 12 caused turnovers.
For Marist, four players have scored double digit goals and five players have reached double figures in points. Attackman Joseph Radin leads the team with 24 goals and 28 points. Fellow attacker, J.D. Recor leads the team in assists with 18 in 2014.
Faceoff man Dominic Montemurro leads the Red Foxes with 41 ground balls and a 54.1 faceoff percentage. Midfielder Patrick Eaker has been a defensive force for Marist. Eaker ranks second in ground balls (27) and tied for first on the squad with five caused turnovers.
Following Saturday's meeting with Marist, the Jaspers will return home from a three-game road swing to take on the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens on Tuesday, April 1. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
