FIU Bests Manhattan 5-1 In Series Finale
Miami, FL - Fueled by three unearned runs, FIU defeated Manhattan 5-1 in the series finale between the teams at the FIU Baseball Stadium.
Despite the defeat, senior RHP Joey Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung Hills) was impressive on the mound in yielding just two earned runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings.
The Golden Panthers opened the scoring with a run in the second before senior Evan Brown (Ashburnham, MA / Bridgton Academy (ME) tied it up with a solo home run in the fourth.
FIU immediately got that run back in the bottom part of the frame before adding one more in the fifth and two in the sixth in providing the final 5-1 tally.
Senior RHP Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) fired 2.0 innings of hitless relief to round out the top performers for the Jaspers.
Irving Lopez and Kenny Meimerstorf each had two hits and a RBI to pace the Golden Panthers.
Alex Demchak earnd the win, striking out nine overe 7.2 innings of action.
Manhattan returns to action with a doubleheader at Fordham on Wednesday, March 8 with first pitch tabbed for 2:00 pm.
