Detroit, MI - Detroit Mercy (3-6) held off a late-charging Manhattan (2-6) squad by a 14-11 count in the MAAC opener for each team.

After the Titans struck first, the trio of freshman Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial), classmate CJ Scharf (West Islip, NY / West Islip) and sophomore Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) each found the back of the net in giving the Jaspers an early 3-1 lead.

Detroit Mercy quickly tied it up before Grinnell and Giarratana each again scored in staking Manhattan to a 5-3 advantage.

The Titans responded with six-straight goals in taking a 9-5 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Jaspers came roaring out of the gates with four-straight scores in tying up the game at 9-9 with 7:42 to play in the third. Giarratana started the run with his third goal of the game before freshman Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) followed suit. Classmate Kelson Borisenko (Winnipeg, Manitoba / The Hill Academy) then delivered his first collegiate goal and sophomore William Ratchford (Mountain Lakes, NJ / Mountain Lakes) his first of the year to cap the spurt.

Unfortunately, Detroit Mercy would rally with three-straight scores en route to finishing off the game with five of the last seven goals.

Giarratana scored a team-high three goals while going over 50 for his career with Grinnell and Scharf each adding two. Junior Joseph Bressingham (Glen Cove, NY / Nassau CC) won 12-of-23 face-offs while collecting seven ground balls to round out the top statistical performers for Manhattan.

Matthew Vangalen had four goals to lead Detroit Mercy while Jason Weber made nine saves in earning the win.

The Jaspers return to action against Canisius on Saturday, March 25 with opening face-off slated for 1:00 pm.
