Manhattan Returns Home For Twinbill With Wagner
RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College softball team (7-7) returns to Gaelic Park on Tuesday afternoon for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Wagner (2-13). The twinbill was originally scheduled for Wednesday at Wagner, but was moved due to the weather forecast and field conditions.
Manhattan is currently riding a four-game winning streak. After being cancelled at the St. John’s Invitational last weekend, the Jaspers have been off since last Tuesday, when they posted a 7-4 victory over Colgate and a 3-0 triumph over Yale. Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA) pitched a complete game shutout against Yale, and she currently leads the team with a 1.85 ERA. Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY) has four wins in the circle to go along with a squad-best 18 strikeouts. She also ranks second in the team with a .268 batting average. Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ) is hitting .327 with 16 hits and 12 runs scored, while Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ) paces Manhattan with nine RBIs.
Wagner was swept in a doubleheader at No. 25 BYU on Thursday. With a .419 batting average, Brianna Tredway is the Seahawks’ leading hitter. Karen Prihoda is hitting .354 with seven runs scored, while Kaila Smith leads Wagner with three home runs and eight RBIs. In the circle, Morgan Brown has picked up a pair of wins and struck out 13 opposing hitters.
This marks the second straight year in which the Jaspers and Seahawks are meeting in a doubleheader at Gaelic Park. Last season, Manhattan posted a 10-9 win in the opener before Wagner took the nightcap, 3-1.
